Calder Park Off-Street Drags 25-08-2002

A perfect day for racing with the sun shining all day, a few of the workshops had rotaries out and some ran personal best times.

From Dyson Rotary there was 'MADRX2' - a 13B Turbo RX-2 sedan (10.7 @ 128mph), Daniel's 12A Turbo Series 3 RX-7 (11.9 @ 114mph), Andrew Dyson's 13B Turbo 323 (9.55 @ 144mph) and their own Pro-Street RX-7 racecar ran a PB of 8.10 @ 170.6mph, becoming the fastest 13B-powered car in Australia.

Rotorworx also had some very nice cars on show, including Simon's 'FREKNU' RX-7 running a PB of 10.40 @ 134mph (backing off at top end due to the car being a bit unstable), 'DVITRX' RX-4 Sedan (11.6 @ 113 due to a slipping clutch) and the white RX-3 sedan 'BUZURK' (10.51 @ 133mph) was also entertaining to watch as it had traction problems all down the track. Footage of 'FREKNU' and 'BUZURK' along with Dyson's 323 can be found on the Video page.

Dalton Automotive had Paul Pfeiffers RX-3 out, along with a nice 1300 two-door sedan.

It was good to see a few other older Mazda's out there including a white 1000 ute, which surprisingly contained a Holden Commodore V-6 transplant and the yellow 1300 wagon from Promaz was also entertaining to watch as it lifted it's left-front wheel when launching.

As usual there were the mass of older, high quality V-8 cars, however it was the Mazda's that we were there to check out...
