Event Report and Pictures: Ben Winstone
The second annual All Performance Challenge event was eagerly anticipated by racers and fans since the last big event at Heathcote in June. Summer arrived early and on Saturday, the temperature was in the region of 37-degrees, creating unfavorable conditions for many of the turbocharged cars, leading to a distinct lack of four, six and rotary turbo vehicles entering the event. However whilst the quantity was slightly down, the quality was certainly there, with a number of quick cars out in attendance.
The fastest rotary at the event was the red Pac Performance RX-3 sedan powered by a 20B Turbo, the new owner had only had a handful of passes in the car but managed to reel off a number of mid 8-second passes at more than 150mph over the weekend. A few other Pac cars were racing, including the RX-3 sedan which managed a 9.9 at 140mph late on Saturday, whilst the RX-2 sedan ran 11.0 at just under 130mph.
A couple of cars from Mr Enforcer Engineering also made the trip down from NSW, with the white 13BT RX-3 performing possibly the biggest burnouts of the event and running into the 11's, whilst the green RX-3 coupe used a 20B Turbo and auto setup and ran in the mid 10-second region during Friday's test and tune session. The yellow MPC 808 Coupe arrived late on Saturday and reeled off a number of mid 10 second passes throughout eliminations with a best of 10.1 @ 143mph.
There was a VL Turbo bracket for this years event, which attracted a few entrants. PET Modifications had a couple of cars out, with the yellow BT-1 running a 9.92 and 9.96 @ 144mph pass, whilst the blue Commodore performed a couple of massive burnouts and ran a 9.99 @ 128mph, whilst also running a low ten at more than 140mph. The Rajab brothers also had a couple of cars out, with their harlequin race car looking fantastic and running a 9.46 @ 148 as well as taking out the bracket, whilst Chopa's BT-1 only made one pass earlier in the day. The JPC Calais ran a couple of times however it was shy of its best time, while the gold calais also prepared by JPC ran 11.6 @ 127mph.
Vince Rigoli had his Fiat turbo powered 1200 ute out once again, while the gold 'DBRONX' WRX ran a 9.49 @ 141mph, and the WRX wagon from TRP ran a best of 9.31 @ 145mph, while their Mitsubishi Evo-powered Hyundai Accent ran a 9.5 @ 143mph. The turbo'd Honda Civic ran a 11.6 @ 127mph.
Over in the show and shine section was mazdarotary.net feature car 'FREKNU', however the RX-7 looks slightly different (and fantastic) now with its new airbrushed paint job (note the heading on one of the gravestones).
Aside from that, there was the normal assortment of V8 powered machines, however it was the four, six and rotary powered cars that we were there to see.
